John Paul Ojirot is a visionary artist, community builder, and the heart behind the Neighbourhood Art Hub. In 2023, he turned a deeply personal belief that art belongs to everyone into a living, breathing reality in the heart of Namatala slum, Mbale.
Passionate about creativity, culture, and community, he has built a welcoming hub for young people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities proving that a single idea, rooted in compassion, can transform an entire neighbourhood.
Under his leadership, the Hub has reached over 200 young people, held the annual Paint for a Preemie event for 500+ attendees, and continues to grow as a model of community-led art education in Uganda.
"I believe art is not a privilege. It is a language every child deserves to speak freely, boldly, and without limits."
Each member of our team brings a unique set of skills and a shared commitment to empowering the young people of Namatala through art, community, and care.
Passionate about fostering creative environments. Gwali is experienced in maintaining safe, clean, and well-organised spaces ensuring every session at the Hub runs smoothly and every young person feels welcome from the moment they arrive.
